Who are Field Tax Ltd?

Mike started Field Tax Ltd (“FTL”) in 2024 after three years as Head of Tax at Deutsche Finance International LLP (“DFI”), a pan European private equity real estate platform with c. €4.1 billion of assets under management (“AUM”). At DFI, Mike was the sole member of the tax team, and so led all aspects of DFI’s tax affairs, as well as those of the entities in the pan European real estate investment funds that DFI advised. In this role, Mike noted the value that a dedicated tax function can add to smaller alternative fund managers, in terms of planning, implementation and monitoring of tax. However, smaller alternative fund managers (typically those with less than €4bn AUM) may lack the resources to hire an in-house tax resource, and the professional services firms are too distant from the business to fully comprehend their client’s needs. Yet being smaller does not diminish the importance of tax, and its implications to returns. Mike incorporated FTL to focus on this gap, servicing the tax needs of smaller alternative fund managers (and the entities that they advise / manage) on an outsourced basis in a cost-effective manner.

Prior to DFI, Mike was a Vice-President at Ares Management Ltd for four years, responsible for heading up European real estate tax. Before that Mike worked in practice as a real estate tax adviser with both Deloitte and KPMG.
